Bedroom Flooring : Hardwood vs. Carpet

When it came to choosing the flooring within our home, we always knew that the main living areas and thoroughfares would be a warm hardwood flooring, but when it came to the bedrooms, it wasn’t a straight forward answer.

We have had a few people ask us about the amazing carpet that we have used in our bedrooms, and also why we chose it. So we thought it would be interesting to share with you our reasons for choosing carpet over hardwood flooring in the bedrooms.

Usually when it comes to Interior design, I do like to ensure that there is consistency with materials throughout the full project, but flooring is an exception.

A bedroom is a place of rest, a place for recovery and comfort is the priority. Comfort can be created through the paint colours used, curtains or window coverings , bedding and furnishings, and items with texture to create warmth. Although the hardwood flooring we used from Vidaspace is beautiful, we couldn’t imagine using it in the bedrooms, waking up on a winters day and putting bare feet down on a cool hardwood floor. So carpet in the bedrooms was the final decision.

I fell in love with a range of luxurious carpets from Cavalier Bremworth, particularly ‘Galet’. It is a chunky loop pile carpet, made from New Zealand wool. With a nice range of neutral colours, we matched the colour ‘Chert’ to match with our palette and materials we planed to use.

We are more than happy with the results, it is so warm and soft underfoot, and adds a layer of luxury to the bedrooms of the home.
